BFI Film Course

Around the end of 2024, I applied for and was accepted onto a short course hosted by the BFI. This was momumental for me as it has greatly helped me learn first-hand what working in the film industry is like in a professional setting. I was in a group of 9 fellow aspiring filmmakers, and we each got to know eachother quickly. After a few online sessions where we got the documents and paperwork out of the way, we met up in person and began creating a short film. I took on many roles during this course, acting as the lead writer, audio recorder, and assistant editor for the film. I pieced together everyone’s ideas into a single coherent list of scenes and wrote majority of them out in full. On the day of filming, I took the mantle of audio recorder and helped record all of the audio from what we filmed. Then, at the end of it all, I edited a few of the scenes together with the help of my peers. I participated in a lot of roles throughout this course, which gave me an insight to pre-production, filming and post-production all in one go and in a professional setting. I enjoyed it all greatly. However, this is not all I learned, as I was a part of many talks with established filmmakers that have knowledge of their subject first hand. This was extremely informative and helped me see what the work life would be like in the industry.
